Summary The synthesis of 3-acetoxy-16, 20-dihydroxy-4-methyl-18-nor-5, 14-pregnano[13,14-f]hexahydro-1, 4-oxazepin-3-one (20a) is described.     

Alternative pathways of glucose metabolism in developing chick brain

Riassunto È stato studiato il metabolismo di glucosio marcato in C-1 e C-6, nel cervello di pollo in varie fasi di sviluppo. I risultati ottenuti indicano che, mentre nel cervello adulto la massima parte del glucosio viene metabolizzata attraverso il ciclo di Embden-Meyeroff, nel cervello embrionale in fase di sviluppo anche la via di Warburg-Dickens è attivamente operante.

On the origin of the Mg++-activated ATPase of muscle mitochondrial preparations

Riassunto Nelle preparazioni mitocondriali di muscolo è presente una notevole attività ATPasica stimolata dal Mg⁺⁺, anche se i mitocondri sono intatti e ben fosforilanti. Questa attività ATPasica, stimolata da Mg⁺⁺, appare essere inibita dall'aggiunta di Ca⁺⁺. Poichè questo comportamento è tipico della attività ATPasica associata ai microsomi, gli autori concludono che l'attività ATPasica stimolata da Mg⁺⁺ delle preparazioni mitocondriali di muscolo è molto probabilmente espressione di un inquinamento delle preparazioni stesse da parte di frammenti originanti dal reticolo sarcoplasmico.     

A new improved synthesis of thyrotropin releasing hormone

Summary This synthesis of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) is particularly suitable for large scale production of highly purified TRH, thanks to its high yields of the coupling and deprotection reactions together with the very simple final purification step. Malate dehydrogenase isoenzymes in the pancreatic islets of obese-hyperglycemic mice

Zusammenfassung Mit der Polyacrylamidgel-Elektrophorese lassen sich aus Langerhansschen Inseln fettsüchtig-hyperglykämischer Mäuse 2 Fraktionen von Malatdehydrogenase isolieren. Die rascher wandernde Franktion scheint eine grössere Aktivität gegen Malat zu besitzen, während in der Aktivität gegen Oxalacetat kein Unterschied besteht.

Antimalarial activity of racemic 3-Epidihydroquinine, 3-Epidihydroquinidine and their various racemic analogs in mice infected withPlasmodium berghei

Zusammenfassung Ein Vergleich dieser Resultate mit denjenigen, die wir für (±)-Dihydrochinin und (±)-Dihydrochinidin berichtet haben², bestätigt die Ergebnisse anderer Arbeiten⁴, dass Inversion am C-3 nur eine geringe Abnahme der Aktivität zur Folge hat. Die folgenden Aktivitäten gegenPlasmodium berghei in Mäusen² wurden in abnehmender Ordnung festgestellt: Dihydrochinidin>Dihydrochinin3-Epidihydrochinidin>3-Epidihydrochinin. Die Ersetzung der 6-Methoxygruppe mit einer 6, 7-Methylendioxy- oder 7-Chlorgruppe ist eine wirksame Abwandlung; die 7-Chlorderivate scheinen bisher die wirksamsten Verbindungen sowohl in der 3-Epials auch in dernormalen Serie zu sein².

Summary Cystinuria andl-Cystine lithiasis, is a rather rare hereditary metabolic disease in human beings. Due to the high purity ofl-Cystine stones formed in the urinary tract, they can serve as ideal models for studies on the chemical dissolution of kidney stones in general. By systematic examinations, it is possible to find for these purposes, dogs in which a cystinuria is present.
